Abstract

The purpose of this project is to investigate the application of Digital Diplomatic Science and Digital Forensics Science in digital born records, in order to analyze and discuss their authenticity in institutional routines and processes, but also as a source evidence in possible legal and legal scenarios. In the face of the vast and fruitful discussions in the fields of Archives and Information Science (I.S.), there is a gap that analyzes the complexity of managing and preserving digital records by keeping them reliable, accurate and authentic in systems that have the same conditions. This gap makes it impossible to preserve records in the long term due, firstly, to the fragility of the systems where they are stored and, secondly, to the constant risks of obsolescence of hardware and software that occur on a day-to-day basis. Digital Diplomatic Science assists in the process of verifying the legal-diplomatic authenticity. Digital Forensic Science, in turn, provides support for the chain of custody to remain intact, regardless of the medium on which the digital record is set. It is questioned in this research if it is possible to apply the practice of the Law and the Digital Forensics in the area of Archival Science and Information Science, guaranteeing the authenticity of the original digital records? And, in what way the combination between Digital Diplomatic Science and Digital Forensic Science can guarantee the preservation and preservation of the digital born digital records? To answer such doubts this research proposes to link five areas of knowledge following the scientific experiments conducted at the University of British Columbia in Canada (UBC) by the InterPARES group. It is intended that the results of this research collaborate for the development of studies in Information Science and Archival Science. (AU)
