Abstract

The electroxidation of SO2 is considered a new source of hydrogen, because it is energetically cheaper than water electrolysis. This method presents several advantages, such as the H2 production at lower potentials and the consumption of an atmospheric pollutant, SO2, producing an important industrial chemical, H2SO4. Our group has already shown that Au is the best electrode for this process and that a non-linear dynamics takes place on the electrode surface.Since the surface crystallography influences on the non-linear behavior, it is proposed to use electrodes with well-defined surfaces, single crystal electrodes, to investigate the electrochemical dependence on this variable.
