Abstract

The taxonomy of Pseudonannolenidae have been a well-known focus of discussion over the past 100-years. The most recent approach of the family is based on the affinities of sexual structure of the males (i.e. gonopod and process on first pair of legs) and the morphological traits of the gnathochilarium. Concerning the gnathochilarium, this issue is especially criticized due to the poorly understood evolution of its components, since no strict hypothesis about the phylogenetic relationship of the family has been put forward. Thus, the main objective of this proposal is provide a comparative morphological study of the gnathochilarium for the Pseudonannolenidae (Spirostreptida, Cambalidea), through analysis of the type and other species deposited at Natural History Museum of Denmark (ZMUC). Based on cladistics methods, this study will be performed in order to propose and discuss hypotheses of homologies for the gnathochilarium components in the family, besides a standardization for the phylogenetic studies of these characters.
