Abstract

Even though different methodologies have been studied in literature the design of ferromagnetic core inductors is a difficult process. When more than one specification needs to be satisfied simultaneously, the iterative trial and error process is inefficient, and must be replaced by an automated and optimized procedure. Each inductor application has different goals, such as core and winding loss minimization, volume and cost minimization, current and inductance dependence minimization, high frequency or temperature operation, among others. This undergraduate research project aims to create a C/C++ inductor design software which uses multi-objective optimization techniques. The user specifies the design objectives and parameters and the software calculates the inductors which follows the specifications. Finally, this proposal aims to create a platform to measure inductance, resistance and quality factor of the inductors. This platform, whose automation will be developed in Labview, will be used to measure the inductor designed by the software and validate it by obtaining experimental measurements.
