Abstract

Bridging ostheosyntesis is more indicated to comminuted fractures, mainly if it is combined to minimal soft tissue injury. It can be performed with various kind of orthopaedics implants, like external fixators, interlocking nails and bone plates. The locking plates act as external fixator, although the apparatus are used internally, the screw head is coupled in the plate, which works like the external nail. There are some locking systems. They can be divided into two categories: fixed-angle locking plates and variable-angle locking plates. The main used in veterinary are Synthes, Orthomed String of Pearls (SOP), Fixin and poliaxial locking plates (PAX). In this student PhD thesis, we will compere a novel type of interlocking nail versus a bridge construction with locking plate and rod. The advisor (Luis Gustavo Gosuen, professor of &) is expert in interlocking nail system and designed this novel model, but there were no study performed about the resistence and stiffness of the developed osteosynthesis system. Thus, the PhD student (Maria Eduarda Bastos Andrade Moutinho da Conceição) would go in Italy (Università Degli Studi di Padova) to learn as much as possible with professor Maurizio Isola and other surgeons, who has a great experience with some locking plates system. The student will develop activities in research and extension under the supervision of Professor Maurizio Isola, whether these activities developed in the laboratory or veterinary hospital of Padua University. Some of them involve training in bone model, training in cadaveric model and follow the orthopedics surgeries, and post operatory period.
