Abstract

Cognitive science studies from the last decades have been able to correlate multisensorial embodied interactions with cognition and perception. Therefore, artworks that rely on the interaction between the human body and technological apparatus have a great potential to induce perceptual responses, which are possibly associated to multimodal aesthetic experiences. This research project aims at deepening the knowledge about multisensory experiences in art, focusing on interactive works mediated by technology. Therefore, two search modalities are proposed: an exploratory and an experimental research. The exploratory research is based on the selection, organization and analysis of multisensory artworks related to the Ars Electronica Festival and to the Interface Cultures Program at the University of Art and Design Linz (highlighting the artworks from Sommerer & Mignonneau). The experimental search focuses on the development of a multimodal poetic experiment. Both the activities will be developed under the supervision of the artist and professor Christa Sommerer. The hypothesis is that by understanding how contemporary art addresses multisensoriality, it will be possible the development of new aesthetic approaches through multimodality. (AU)
