Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) list goals and targets that must be addressed to solve global problems of sustainable development. In section 3, which portrays ensuring a healthy life and promoting well-being for all, one of the objectives is to reduce maternal, neonatal and under five mortality rates. A way to achieve this goal is through statistical analysis that find associations between indicators. The objective of the present study will be to estimate a prediction model of Mortality such as maternal, neonatal and up to five years of a country based on its environmental performance. To do so, databases will be used the World Bank Group and Yale University's Environmental Performance Index (EPI). The fitted model will be that of a simple linear regression in which the response variable will be the mortality rate and the explanatory variable will be the EPI Score. The predictive capacity of the model will be evaluated through the coefficient of determination and the statistical learning technique called validation, in which one part of the database will be reserved for the estimation of parameters and the other to evaluate its predictive performance. It is expected with the results found to verify out if there is an association between maternal, neonatal and under five mortality rates and the environment. The results of the present study will bring important information to scientists and managers who will be able to assist in the fulfillment of the ODS.
