Abstract

This research project aims to examine the phenomenology of belonging currently developed by the philosopher Renaud Barbaras in France. We envisage this exploration as part of our post-doctoral research, on which we develop the concept of atopy as an original contribution to the contemporary debate on the "question of the subject". We believe that the phenomenology of belonging opens a new field of investigation in this area, insofar as the question of space is privileged in relation to that of time. It is thus a question of taking up again the fundamental categories of phenomenology starting from the spatiality from which it is possible to think atopy, meaning the « placeless » characteristic of the spectral subject that resulted from our reading of Sartre. It is therefore possible, thanks to the phenomenology of belonging of Barbaras, to rethink the idea of "place" in an ontological sense, since the emergence of a subject from a common ground opens a spatial field where he finds his senses. This is essential for our main reflection in that we are finally seeking to consider how identity can be understood as a sort of place through which non-identity subjects transit through their modalities of belonging.
