Abstract

High Entropy Alloys (HEA) are a new class of metallic alloys that do not have a main element. This makes HEAs exist over a large compositional field, which is mostly unexplored. Recently, there is an increasing interest in high strength precipitation-hardened HEAs with Face Centered Cubic (FCC) matrix and L12 precipitates or Body Centered Cubic (BCC) matrix with B2 precipitates to compete with traditional superalloys. In this work, thermodynamic calculations will be performed to design HEAs with these structures. Eight alloys selected based on the thermodynamics predictions will be produced in pilot scale and they will be characterized to verify the presence of the expected precipitates. Two promising alloys will be used to study the precipitation process by means of several different heat treatments, characterization by different techniques, and hardness curves. Mechanical tests will be carried out in the different aging stages to verify the balance between strength and ductility. The analysis of the results will be made comparing the behavior of HEAs with conventional alloys seeking to understand if there are particularities in precipitation hardening in these alloys. (AU)
