Abstract

Lectins are a class of carbohydrate binding proteins. They have a high potential for therapeutic and biotechnological applicability. These proteins have attracted great attention due to antitumor and immunomodulatory activities. Lectins are found in a wide range of organisms, but few studies are conducted to identify and characterize lectins of actinomycetes, an important group of microorganisms that are potential sources of molecules with a wide variety of biological activities. In this context, the proposal of this work is to identify new lectins of actinomycetes isolated from soil and to characterize the lectin activity of these molecules. In view of the above, this study will contribute to the identification and characterization of potential molecules, which can be used in the different biological activities described for lectins.
