Abstract

This proposal entitled "Dissection of the heat stress response in Saccharum spp and in vitro study of the chloroplast HSP70-CLPB-sHSPs disaggregation machinery." combines the field of biotechnology and protein biochemistry to unravel the molecular mechanisms that reverse protein misfolding and aggregation after the onset of heat stress. The understanding of these processes and the identification of key components of the heat stress response will help to increase the thermotolerance of crop plants, to secure agricultural yields and to improve the food and energy situation of a growing global population.
