Abstract

This project aims to analyze the iconography of the jewels and weapons of the Moche/Mochica leader known as "Señora de Cao" (Huaca Cao Viejo-Archaeological Complex El Brujo, Peru) from a symbolic perspective and the assumptions of gender Archaeology; with the intention of understanding her role and peculiarities as ruler, priestess and warrior. The study also intends to understand the dynamics and gender relations in Moche society and in the current community of Madgalena del Cao, focusing on the duality theme contained in the majority of the iconography, art and cosmovision of Amerindian and Andean cultures. To carry out the investigation will be analyzed the metallic collections that are in the Cao Museum (Peru); as well as an ethnoarchaeological work with the community of Magdalena del Cao, observing the impact of the discovery of the Lady of Cao and the museum in the local community, with the existence (or absence) of a possible female empowerment; as well as the consequences on shamanic activities in the region.
