Abstract

The growing industrial development of the last decades, combined with the need to take advantage of the residual thermal energy of various industrial processes, have led inexorably to the improvement of thermal devices with the aim of making them more efficient. Among the various equipment that have received special attention from the academic community and the research and development centers, the heat exchangers stand out. Heat exchanger is a device that promotes the heat transfer between two or more fluids. An engineering promising area to enhance the heat transfer in this type of devices is to apply wavy-fin in compact heat exchanger. Therefore, the main goal of this research project is to investigate, by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the enhancement heat transfer in a wavy fin-and-tube compact heat exchanger, analyzing the height and length of each wavy which growing under different rate, for circular tubes and both aligned and staggered arrangement, operating at low Reynolds number.
