Abstract

The main objective of this research is to understand how scientific, artistic and entertainment visual regimes are interwoven in the production of the images of the Photographic Iconography of the Salpêtrière. To do so, I will use as a methodological research resource two sets of theoretical references: 1- bibliographies of history, philosophy and visual studies of science; 2 - the feminist critique that works with studies of science and gender and with the production of difference. The materials mobilized for this research, in turn, are composed of two fronts. The first one includes the Fonds Numérisé Charcot, file that houses the Photographic Iconography of Salpêtrière, the main source of this study. On the second front, it includes the archives of the Bibliothèque de l'Académie Nationale de Médecine, BIU Santé and Bibliothèque Médicale Henri Ey du Center Hospitalier Saint-Anne. To carry out an internship in Paris for six months is, therefore, an essential condition for the analysis of the material that bases this master's research and for the expansion of new sources that will allow to reach the central objectives of this study; in addition, the importance of the theoretical-methodological exchanges with the researchers of the Center Alexandre Koyré under the supervision of professor Charlotte Bigg stands out.
