Abstract

This project intends to analyze, from the Maracatu Group of Baque Virado Ouro do Congo, the body as a privileged locus in the production and transmission of knowledge, as well as in the conformation and updating of localities. Such discussions have as starting point the relations established between the different groups that create and access the universe of maracatu: nations and percussive groups. It seeks here to reach the body as a key element for understanding both the universes of shared sense between nation and group, and the practices that distinguish these two categories. With the help of audiovisual materials collected in the field, and the participation in the group as a performer, the intention is to put my body in a process that sometimes observes, sometimes participates in the multivocality play, sing and dance. It helps me in the understanding of how these other bodies are constructed, transit and are placed in the space in relation to themselves, to the history of the maracatu, to the clothes, symbols, instruments and also in relation to the city. Both the transits created by the groups in the physical context of the city, and the transits of speeches and practices between the bodies that play maracatu can be seen as central in the construction of specific localities. Onwards the images and understandings generated, it is intended to build, in dialogue with the group, and to act to the efforts of multimodal anthropology, to assemble the audiovisuals that help the members of the system, and to answer them whenever possible.
