Abstract

The project aims to analyze Diderot's texts in which the notions of matter and sensibility are found, in order to understand the relations between them, more properly the three stages of matter examined by the author: (1) inert matter; (2) active matter; (3) thinking and active matter. Diderot deals with this issue in several works, such as Encyclopaedia, Letter on Blind (1749), Philosophical Principles on Matter and Movement (1792), On the Interpretation of Nature and mainly in D'Alembert's Dream (1769).
