Abstract

Besides significant advances in the last centuries, humanity still suffer from a plenty of viral diseases for which we have no vaccines or specific treatments. Development of prevention or treatment measures for emerging viral diseases has been proven difficult and expensive. The solution to this problem may reside in molecules that are broadly active, protective against different viruses, also known as broad-spectrum antiviral agents. Herein we propose the development of dendritic polyanions-based materials, that may act as virustatic polymers ultimate leading to virus irreversible distortion, as a consequence of the multivalent bind to viruses particles. The predicted permanent virus inactivation response of the designed dendritic polymers, specially focused on Brazilian ZIKV, would make them virucidal therapeutic strategies against viral infections in humans.
