Abstract

Bovine papillomaviruses (BPVs) are recognized as causative agents of tumors in bovines. Worldwide, they are related to economic losses. To date, twenty-four types of BPVs have been described, each type being associated with characteristic lesions. In Brazil, the real extent of the impact caused by these viruses has not yet been fully evaluated, but published studies indicate the circulation of different types and viral variants, with obvious deleterious effects. In this context, the present project aims to diagnose samples of BPVs that are in the collection of the Genetics Laboratory of the Butantan Institute, with a view to developing an analysis of its diversity. The characterization proposed here is based on the use of PCR, by the use of generic primers. It is expected that the data obtained will contribute to the development of vaccine strategies aimed at the prevention and cure of the diseases associated with these viruses.
