Abstract

We intend to conduct a research in the Torre do Tombo National Archives of Portugal about the secret documentation of Salazarism in the "Portuguese India" boxes, in order to identify, analyze and compare the political vocabulary of the Salazarist regime on the liberation and the transitions of Goa to Indian Union between 1961 to 1967 comparing with the Goan resistance vocabulary. In Portugal there were several repercussions of Operation Vijay, which ended the 450 years of Portuguese colonialism in Goa. To understand them, we will search the ANTT's Salazar archive for the regime's different interventions on post-colonial Goa, using correspondence, secret documents and the various forms of documentation there. At the same time, we will use for this analysis official publications of the regime, such as the Boletim Geral do Ultramar (1924-1974) and the government publications Invasão e ocupação de Goa: comentários da imprensa mundial (1963) and Vinte anos de defesa do Estado Português da Índia (1947-1967), in order to delineate more clearly the vocabulary of the Salazar regime over that period of Goan history. To enrich the research, we will read the republican (Republica, 1911-1972) and communist (Avante !, 1931-) opposition newspapers and their respective views on the Goan political scene. With this, we will complement the research related to the 2017/18625-8 process, resulting in an article about the repercussions in Portugal of the transition from Colonial to Postcolonial Goa. (AU)
