Abstract

This project presents an interpretative trajectory structured in two axes. The first focuses on visual artworks that are being developed by the visual artist and writer Nuno Ramos, from 2004 to the present moment. These works, that share several of their main problems with the artist's literary production, present modes of scenic structuring which produce singular connections and disjunction between, on the one side, the physical space and its forms of materiality and, on the other side, the proposition of vocal utterances. As for the second axis, it aims at integrating the commentary on these works into a field of poetic and conceptual crossings among elements from the realms of literature, the visual arts and theater, which this research attempts to map out. The "Theaters of voice" are understood as a field of contact between hybrid poetics, grounded upon two lines, represented by Samuel Beckett and Valère Novarina, and recent theoretical works produced in the realm of contemporary art, such as the ones by Georges Didi-Huberman, Seth Kim-Cohen and Patrice Maniglier. The research works with a notion of the "theatrical" as a space of crossed explorations between the realms of the voice and the gaze, body and space, as well as materiality and immateriality, perception and conceptualization, having the deconstruction of the body-voice architecture of the subject as its analytical core. Drawing from analysis of this core, the research focuses on two other sets of problems: the problem of the art object's status, derived from the horizon of connection between language and time-spatial situations, and the ontological and political consequences that are brought forth by this debate.
