Abstract Fossil fuels are non-renewable source of energy responsible for global warming. Because of this, the development of efficient energy storage systems has become an important issue. Although Lithium-ion Batteries (LIBs) have emerged as the most widely used choice as a source of portable power, lithium is a relatively little abundant element. Therefore, the research and development of Sodium Ion Batteries (SIBs) is important, given that sodium is a much more abundant element in nature and, as it is able to intercalate similarly to lithium, it is the most promising candidate to replace the LIBs. This project aims to develop and characterize nanostructured MXenes-based materials, and use them in the manufacture of electrodes for SIBs. The functionalization and formation of composites with carbon-based nanostructured materials allows to improve MXenes cyclability and capacity, contributing to the progress of the SIBs. (AU) | |
