Abstract

Hemostasis is defined as the body's control between hemorrhage and thrombosis, ie blood must flow through the circulatory system in a fluid manner. There is evidence that simple sedation can alter hemostatic parameters, which could predispose to hemorrhage or thrombosis depending on the method used, and there are few studies evaluating the effect of anesthesia on hemostatic parameters, especially in felines. When subjecting such animals to elective procedures such as castration, a routine procedure in the veterinary clinic, it is critical to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms that such procedures may cause in animals, especially with regard to hemostasis. In this context, the present study aims to determine the effect of anesthesia on the hemostatic parameters of 10 healthy cats submitted to elective castration surgery, comparing them before sedation (MB), 15 minutes after pre-anesthetic medication (MMPA). immediately after the propofol induction bolus (MIND) and at 90 minutes of continuous propofol infusion (MINF). In addition, prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (TTPA) values will be evaluated in citrated plasma in healthy females. TP and TTPA coagulation times will be determined on a semi-automated coagulometer using a triplicate set of commercial reagents, following the manufacturer's recommendations and platelet counts will be performed on a hemocytometer and veterinary automated cell counter. Variables will be tested for normality and differences between moments will be verified by repeated-measures ANOVA and Tukey or Friedman post-Dunn post-test, while differences between anticoagulants will be determined by paired t-test. or Wilcoxon, being considered significant when p<0.05.
