Abstract

This study proposes to develop a model of production cost calculation for pigs, and from this model, elaborate a production cost indicator to follow the Evolution of the production system costs over time. The Panel method will be used to design the representative pig production systems of pig production in complete cycle of the state of São Paulo, and later, the model of production cost calculation will be developed in the form of a spreadsheet in Excel® software. The cost calculation model will be updated with monthly prices of production inputs, so it's possible to calculate the index cost of pig production for the State of São Paulo. Is not available a model of production cost of pigs that fits the Economic Theory and the production routine in the state of São Paulo, so it's assumed that producers would benefit from this model and a cost indicator for the activity. It's expected to generate a cost model and an index of cost production and make it freely available for use by members of the pork production chain: breeders, producer groups, and associations. It's hoped that these tools will help control production costs and the decision making in these establishments, adding knowledge, facility and subsidies for the management of the activity. (AU)
