Abstract

The present project aims to analyze the structure of the current world order during the government of Xi Jinping from the consideration of the elevation of China's power as a regional hegemonic actor. At first, the main theoretical framework for explaining the contemporary global context will be the work of John J. Mearsheimer, representative of Offensive Realism in International Relations Theory. The main debate to be established in this study is brought from the theme "hegemony" regarding China as the second-largest world power, which may tend to take the American position as leader of the international system. Subsequently, in contrast, the same theme will be verified through the concept of Tianxia, which adequately expresses the rhetoric of contemporary Chinese foreign policy and is duly explained in the work of contemporary Chinese authors such as Tingyang Zhao. After presenting both perspectives, the second will be analyzed from the first, bringing an interpretation of Tianxia through the postulates brought by Mearsheimer's theory.
