Abstract

Knowing the errors of a machine tool is important to ensure manufacturing quality and can be used to characterize a machine or to adjust errors by compensation (SCHWENKE, et al., 2008). Machine tools with different structures have geometric errors, and in a horizontal lathe, geometric errors are present in the movement of their carriages, longitudinal and transverse, during manufacturing processes. Studies related to geometric errors in machine tools are performed in order to know the geometric errors and make more accurate manufacturing processes. However, many are applied in machining centers, use high-cost instrumentation and apply difficult-methods to insert in an industrial environment. The possibility to apply an accessible method of error knowledge that can be used in a lathe is a potential contribution to the area since most of the manufacturing processes are machining processes and specifically turning processes. Error separation methods are applied to remove the error of an inspected part without the aid of prior calibration with standards. In addition, the method can provide information about the part and the system used. To apply this method, mathematical methods and redundant measurements are used. In this context, this project aims to present a method of error separation in a lathe by the reversal method, using the lowest cost instrumentation, which allows us to identify and simulate transverse deviations to longitudinal guideways, in parts turning processes with different lengths and diameters. The results of the error separation method will be compared with the results obtained in a more accurate method and will allow identifying the efficiency of this study. (AU)
