Abstract

The research proposes to discuss how the Freirean dialogic approach was translated into urbanization practices of favelas in Brazil. For this, the project will start from case studies of practices implemented in pioneering experiences in local governments of the cities of Recife (PE) and Diadema (SP). In the selected cases, the aforementioned approach and the pedagogue himself contributed directly to the training of architects and social workers to practice in favelas, whose premise was the exercise of dialogue with residents of settlements that would be the object of state action.The study intends to recover the history of the performance of this important educator, who influenced several disciplinary fields of knowledge and public policies. In the present proposal, the focus is on its incidence on the social housing field in the country, more specifically on interventions in precarious settlements, a subject not explored in the academic literature on the Freire's influence of a progressive and militant nature, and here, of 'archeology'. It should be noted that this influence occurred in Brazil in a context of redemocratization, with openness to participatory public policies, concomitant with the struggle to implement the agenda of the urban reform movement. The little literature on the subject, the need for meticulous investigation and based on the oral history of subjects who have experienced these practices, provokes interest in the search for a memory that is at the moment fragmented and little documented in the country.
