Abstract

The recent literature in economics strongly emphasizes the crucial role of innovation ecosystems in the promotion of regional development. In this context, the outstanding importance of biotechnology emerges, due to its great innovative and economical potential. This research aims to analyze the regional innovation ecosystem in biotechnology of the metropolitan region of Campinas, which holds not only the largest number of biotechnology companies in the State of São Paulo, but also a dynamic network of actors from this sector. To achieve the proposed objective, this study implements network analysis (integrated with other methods and specifically adapted and applied to the biotechnology sector), which provides a better understanding of the key-dimensions, current stage and functioning aspects of the regional innovation ecosystem of Campinas.
