Abstract

This project aims to analyze the pacification processes and power disruptions in the territories dominated by the "Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC)". The Command was created in a context of revidincations against Brazilian State violence, and for rights and improvements in the prison system. Initially, the Command expanded within the state of São Paulo. Nowadays, the organization is spread throughout the Brazilian territory and present in other countries as well. A prevailing hypothesis in the literature on the PCC is that this organization has established a monopoly of violence. This has occurred due to hegemonic power relations within prisons and communities. Clashes between the PCC and the Brazilian State, mainly through public security agents - i.e., the police - have generated violence dueto persecution, exchange of gunfire and murder, causing widespread crime in society. The objective of this research project is to analyze the conflicts between the PCC and institutions of the state of São Paulo, which often lead to ruptures and instabilities within the territories controlled and demarcated by the Command. For this purpose, this research project will employ qualitative methods. First, a literature review on the history, structure and performance of the PCC in the state of São Paulo will be carried out. Second, an ethnography study will be conducted in neighborhoods of the cities of Osasco and Barueri, where the 2015slaughter occurred owing to disputes between the PCC and the Military Police. (AU)
