Abstract

There has been an increasing trend in the dental research field favoring patient-centered outcomes in spite of the exclusive use of objective and clinical measures of therapeutic success. Hence, the identification of orthodontic patients' perceptions might result in the appropriate in-depth and comprehensive description that this topic deserves. Objective: The objective of this Research Project is to qualitatively investigate adolescents' perceptions on corrective orthodontic treatment. Methods: Adolescents seeking for corrective orthodontic treatment in the School of Dentistry of Ribeirao Preto will be identified and posteriorly recruited, according to inclusion/ exclusion criteria. Individual semi-structured interviews will be conducted with the support of a guideline. Such interviews will include patients' perceptions on normal and abnormal occlusion, their complaints, motivations and expectations in relation to the orthodontic treatment, as well as their potential impacts, according to their own standpoint.
