Abstract

Inserted in the context of the growth of the gathering of undesirables due to the Brazilian urbanization project in the first half of the twentieth century, the study analyzes the formation of Allan Kardec Psychiatric Hospital staff, in Franca, in the 1930s and 1940s, trough the Employees' Registration Books. We are interested in the set of workers who weren't linked to the administrative and medical specificities, but were fundamental to the daily activities performed in the entity. It's necessary to investigate the nature of these institutions in order to establish the universe of work and the mentality of employment organization of the time, with the goal to reflect about who were those people, their working conditions, their working hours and the role they played in the routine of the Psychiatric Hospital.
