Abstract

This research brings as its working hypothesis that Aristotelian essentialism is originally softer in its ontology than the consequences historically developed from it. Close to the contemporary interpretation which by reconsidering the teleological character of hylomorphism already notices this, the research tests in some passages of Metaphysics Z the reading according to which the articulation between form and matter is compatible to a supervenientist model - as an alternative both to functionalism, on the one hand, and to vitalism and dualism, on the other.
