Abstract

The theme of Roman imperial cult allows us to approach the relation between religion and power in order to make evident how these two spheres are intrinsic in Ancient Rome. By setting out to do a study that goes beyond the capital of the Empire, we can get to a distinct and multicultural context, of which said Roman elements became a part as from 30 B.C. with the conquest of Egypt and its new status of Roman province. This current project aims to investigate, through a bibliographic research, the configurations that those practices acquired in Roman Egypt, by collating the works of contemporary authors as well as taking into consideration what the material culture that some of them highlight - such as imperial statues and temple ruins - allows us to explore amidst a field of study that offers great potential to the scientific research.
