Abstract

In the last years, with the experimental realization of superconducting materials where more than one electronic band plays an important role in the superconducting state, multiband superconductivity has gained attention in both experimental and theoretical literature. Nevertheless, details of the microscopic parameters and the magnetic behavior in those materials are still in debate. One way to shed light into these subjects it is the study of vortex matter in the desired material, by which it was already shown that the presence of multiple bands, and consequently more than one order parameter for the system, leads to the emergence of a series of interesting new properties, as a non-uniform vortex distribution due to a non-monotonic vortex-vortex interaction, to the emergence of vortices with a fraction of flux quanta, skyrmions, phase solitons, among other phenomena. One particular class of multiband superconductors, the nanostructured and atomically thin superconductors, where the multiband structure arises from quantum confinement effects, has recently gained enormous importance due to its potential application in a new generation of electronic devices, more sensible and energetically less expensive than the existing ones. Only a few theoretical works about its magnetic behaviour, the resistive state and other characteristics of these materials has been realized up to now. The aim of the present project is to expand the studies present in the literature about mesoscopic multiband superconductors, as well as to contribute to the beginning of the characterization of the magnetic and electronic properties of atomically thin superconductors throughout the Ginzburg-Landau theory. For that purpose, the superconducting samples will be characterized by numerical simulations based on the time dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations, adapted to the cases of multiple bands and nonostructured superconductors.
