Abstract

Cancer is the leading cause of death in developed countries and the second largest in developing countries. In 2018, approximately 600 thousand new cases and approximately 250 thousand deaths were registered in Brazil, demonstrating a public health problem. Among the various types, breast cancer and osteosarcoma are of serious severity, with a high mortality rate. Therefore, the search for more effective diagnoses and treatments is essential. In this case, as alternative treatments, natural substances are gaining prominence for their potential in combating cancer cells. In this class of substances, diapocinin, obtained from the oxidation of apocinin, is an important agent because it is an inhibitor of the NADPH-oxidase complex, with antitumor characteristics. In this context, this project aims to study the effect of diapocinin on breast cancer and osteosarcoma cells. For this, breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) and osteosarcoma (UMR-106) will be cultured and maintained in conditions suitable for studying the migratory capacity of these cells, characteristics inherent to cell malignancy, as well as for checking cell viability that will occur through experiments to verify the conversion of own reagents, and finally, the activities of the metalloproteinases MMP-2 and 9, produced by the cells, will also be quantified.
