Histological characterization and immunolocalization of Tripanosoma vivax in sexual glands of young caprines

Abstract

Trypanosomiasis are diseases caused by protozoa of the genus Trypanosoma and affect from humans to domestic and wild animals. In Brazil, Trypanosoma vivax is mechanically transmitted by diptera, such as the stableand horn flies. Despite of causing great damage to the production of goats and negatively affect the seminal quality, there are few reports regarding the effect of this infection on the sexual glands of males of such species, as well asthe histological aspect and the immunolocation of the parasite, which is the main objectives of the present study. For this purpose, 20 (twenty) male Saanen goats will be studied, which were divided into control (G-CON; n = 5)and infected (G-INF; n = 15) groups. In this last group, one milliliter of blood containing 1x104 trypomastigotes of T. vivax from the Miranda strain was inoculated intravenously (jugular vein)per animal. All animals (n = 20) were euthanized 47 days after the experimental inoculation. Fragments of the sexual glands were collected to be analyzed after histological and immunohistochemical processing. The statistical analysis of the data will beperformed by Proc Mixed. The type of lesion (degenerative and / or inflammatory) will be evaluated, as well as the presence and location of the parasite to determine the damage caused to the sexual glands of young goats.
