Abstract

The present research project proposes an analysis of the "Letter to Benedetto Varchi" and the writings, called "Il libro mio", made by Iacopo Carucci (1494-1557) 16th century Italian painter, born in Pontorme de Empoli (in the province of Tuscany) and within the Florentine Mannerist movement. The main objective of the work is to think about the representations created around the figure of the artist in the 16th century, focusing on the agonistic relationship established with nature and the social place acquired by the artists. With the help of secondary bibliography and other primary sources (such as the "Life of Pontormo" written by Vasari and Pontormo's paintings), we intend to better understand the scenario that led to these constructions.
