Doctors at the front of the COVID-19 pandemic: incidence of Burnout Syndrome

Abstract

The new Coronavirus modified the work organization of doctors and physicians, making it more demanding and intense, applicable to those who are now on the front lines for combat at Covid-19 in the State of São Paulo, one of the epicenters of the disease in Brazil. Starting from the theoretical framework of Stress Theory, use a quantitative exploratory research, which aims to verify the prevalence of occupational stress, and the likelihood of Burnout in doctors who use it in the front line, directly with infected patients, compared to doctors who work in other health care units during a pandemic. A research justifies by the premise of the question, and the urgency to bring answers that qualify which help professionals in the areas of Occupational Psychopathology and Mental Health to think of strategies to affect stressors and treat caregivers, as well as to direct preventive measures or prophylaxis of these morbidities during and after a pandemic. The instruments used are three: Sample Characterization Questionnaire, created by the researchers, Occupational Stress Scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory, internationally recognized and validated for the brazilian population. The tracked data undergoes normality, statistical and inferential curve verification. The correlation between occupational stress and the presence of Burnout will be studied, as well as other measures of interest, such as: number of hours worked, hours of sleep, feeling of risk in relation to personal and family life, among others. A survey respected the ethics conventions in research with human beings. The results will be made available to the participants and published in scientific journals. (AU)
