Abstract

Stroke corresponds to the third most common cause of disability, affecting more than 15 million people worldwide, annually. Patients who survive strokes evolve with reduced functionality and quality of life. Studies relating palliative care and stroke show that the palliative care is usually started late, usually in the final stage of life. The literature shows us that the implementation of this care improves not only the quality of life but also changes the outcome in other chronic pathologies that adversely affect functionality. Hypothesis: We hypothesize that the implementation of Palliative Care in patients with acute stroke changes the outcome and the performance of invasive measures. Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate patients affected by stroke, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit or Stroke Unit in a Tertiary Hospital, who have received an indication for Palliative Care during hospitalization, by collecting data on the patient's profile and clinical evolution during hospitalization. Casuistry and Methods: Retrospective descriptive study with patients admitted with a diagnosis of Stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic), admitted to the Intensive Care Unit or Stroke Unit of Hospital das Clínicas - UNESP Botucatu, aged 18 years or more, in the period from 01/2017 to the present moment. Univariate and multivariate analyzes will be performed.
