Abstract

Data from the United States National Cancer Institute show that death rates from cancer have increased over the years, and the available therapy indicates adverse effects on patients, requiring new alternatives. Biological silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) can be a viable possibility as antitumor treatment, since the protective coating favors its affinity for tumor cells and, consequently, can contribute to the adverse effects reduction. Due to the antitumor agents demand and the potential for applying AgNPs, the aims of this proposal is to study the in vitro and in vivo antitumor action of biogenic AgNPs, based on the cultivation of extremophile fungi from Brazilian biodiversity, such mainly from mangrove and biome Caatinga. It is intended that the study will contribute to providing subsidies and data for a new alternative to current antitumor treatments, with a reduction or absence of adverse effects. (AU)
