Abstract

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease with unknown cause and numerous oral alterations are observed in these patients, such as hyposalivation. Saliva is directly linked to the health and homeostasis of oral tissues and patients who experience a decrease have higher rates of halitosis. There are no studies in the literature demonstrating the presence of halitosis in individuals with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. The aim of this study will be to identify volatile sulfur compounds using the OralChroma " gas chromatograph in individuals with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and to compare with healthy individuals relating to the organoleptic test, oral health indexes, salivary flow, quality of life questionnaires. The groups will be subjected to halimetry using the OralChroma® equipment, organoleptic test, questionnaires related to oral (OHIP-14) and general (SF-36), dental evaluation of caries activity (CPO), periodontal evaluation - community periodontal index (CPI ), bacterial plaque index, lingual biofilm index, gingival index, mechanically stimulated and unstimulated sialometry, xerostomia inventory and salivary pH.
