Abstract

Iron-based superconductors (FeSC) are an interesting family of materials in which high-temperature superconductivity appears. The understanding of the superconducting transition so far relates this phase with magnetic fluctuations in the system. Indeed, under the effect of electron or hole doping, magnetic order is suppressed and superconductivity emerges. Due to the itinerant behavior of spins in this family of materials, the Fermi Surface (FS) topology is a relevant parameter to understand the formation of the superconducting ground state. The FS of a material can be determined by Angle-Resolved PhotoEmission Spectroscopy (ARPES) experiments. We propose an exchange period in the group of Prof. Dr. Claude Felix Monney at the University of Fribourg, during which the candidate will further her knowledge about the technique and perform ARPES experiments of selected FeSC materials. Experiments will be performed at the in-house ARPES facility at the University of Fribourg and on synchrotron facilities in Europe (including as well RIXS experiments). Moreover, we propose time-resolved ARPES experiments of small band gap semiconductors in preparation for future studies of the FeSC by this kind of ultrafast spectroscopy. (AU)
