Abstract

The correct use of the E-Space (difference of the sum of mesio-distal width of second deciduous molar and second premolar) could be a key factor in obtaining successful correction of certain types of malocclusion in the mixed dentition, such as moderate anterior crowding or mild to moderate dental Class II due to the mesial migration of the lower first permanent molars. There is a lack of reliable information about possible differences in tooth size differences among the different groups of Angle malocclusions in the Brazilian population. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the E-space and the mesio-distal widths of second deciduous molars and second premolars in all three groups of Angle malocclusions. Material and Methods: The sample will be consisted of 204 patients that will be divided in three groups: Class I, Class II, and Cass III. The orthodontic models evaluated will be previously obtained during the late mixed dentition and early permanent dentition. Mean and standard deviation values will be calculated using the Students T-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA).
