Abstract

The yield of the corn-brachiaria consortium can be optimized by managing the weed competition with the application of underdoses of herbicides selective to the corn crop, however, there is no research analyzing the correlation of the droplet size and application volume variables in this management. Based on this, it is proposed to carry out five experiments: (1) elaboration of dose-response curves in Urochloa ruziziensis, of the herbicides atrazine and nicosulfuron, to determine a working dose and, from that; (2) quantify the deposition and coverage provided by the application in eight treatments (four classes of drops - fine, medium, coarse and very coarse × two application volumes - 70 L ha-1 and 150 L ha-1) on artificial targets (Petri dishes and water sensitive cards); (3) verify the characteristics of the droplet spectra, using the image droplet analysis method (PDIA); (4) quantify the drift potential in controlled conditions (wind tunnel) and (5) perform a field experiment, in simultaneous duplicate, with the objective of verifying the interference of treatments in the management of weed competition and the effects on the consortium's yield by analysis of variables: level of weed control, brachiaria dry mass yield and corn grain yield. Based on the joint analysis of the experimental data obtained, it will be possible to point to an adequate configuration of variables that guarantee profitability, economy and environmental safety in the management of weed competition in the corn-brachiaria consortium.
