Abstract

Kidney cancer currently affects approximately 270,000 people worldwide. The knowledge about the molecular biology of this tumor allowed the development of tyrosine kinase inhibitory agents. The treatment of metastatic tumors with these inhibitors increases the overall survival of kidney cancer patients. However, there are important therapy-related adverse effects that decrease the patient's quality of life patients, such as fatigue, diarrhea, hypertension, hand-foot syndrome, and nausea. The education of patients regarding adverse effects and actions to prevent/minimize are important in the control of toxicities. Serious games are games in which the objective of the game it’s not just fun, it's also education. This kind of innovative approach is hardly used in oncology, especially in adults. The objective of this project is to develop a serious game in order to educate patients about the adverse effects associated with treatment with TKI. A 2D single-player game will be developed on the platform Construct 3, narrative style (with the interactive story), where the player will be exposed to multiple choices that will assist in learning about care to be taken in relation to kidney health and treatment. The development of the project has the potential to impact the improvement of the use of a drug available in SUS to treat kidney cancer. (AU)
