Abstract

There is limited knowledge about heart rate variability (HRV) in horses during rest and exercise in the current literature. Some devices can be used to assess the heart rate in horses. However, when it comes to heart rate variability (HRV), these devices have not been validated or validated only in animals at rest or walking. This study will determine the agreement between two different methods for evaluating HRV, the Holter-Cardioflash® (gold standard), and the heart rate monitor (RS800G3). For this purpose, eight crossbreed horses will be used, in which an analysis of HRV will be performed during rest and during the incremental submaximal exercising test with both devices at the same time. The data obtained by the heart rate monitor will be transmitted and analyzed using the Kubios software (Kubios HRV Standard version 3.1.0). HRV variables will be computed time-domain measures included standard deviation of NN intervals (SDNN), root mean square of successive RR interval differences (RMSSD), percentage of successive RR intervals that differ by more than 50 ms (pNN50), and the natural log of the (Ln RMSSD). One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, Bland-Altman analyses, and ordinary least products regression will assess the extent of agreement and bias among HRV variables. (AU)
