Abstract

Energy is one of the most important factors for the growth of the world economy and technological advances, which is why the demand for this resource has increased over the years. This growth brings with it some concerns, such as the need to develop new energy sources and the increase in environmental impacts. For decades, the industrial sector has been responsible for a large part of the energy demand, but over time, the consumption passed to the building sector, which is responsible for 36% of the global final energy consumption and for 40% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Brazil, as well as around the world, has been facing an increase in energy consumption in the building sector. This scenario suggests urgency in reducing energy consumption. One way to achieve this goal, without affecting the well-being of the occupants and adding several benefits, is the adoption of Energy-Efficient (EE) technologies in buildings. There are several EE technologies available to be adopted. However, there are barriers that prevent its adoption. As a result, many studies have been developed with the objective of identifying barriers to the adoption of EE technologies in the building sector. However, a small portion of these researches turns to study strategies for overcoming such barriers. Therefore, this research aims at the guidelines for the implementation of strategies to overcome the main barriers that inhibit the adoption of EE technologies in the building sector in Brazil. (AU)
