Abstract

The objective of this project is the development and analysis of internal combustion engines models operating with natural gas and diesel mixtures. There are demands for engines operating with natural gas in the thermoeletric and hybrid propulsion systems for ships segments, however, there is not enough knowledge and data about the emissions of the unburned gases in dual fuel engines. Therefore, the object in sight is to create models of the turbulent flows inside the combustion chambers and of the emissions composition through experimental data obtained from the single cylinder engine with optical access. In possession of the experimental data and engine specifications it is possible to obtain one-dimensional (1D) and three-dimensional (3D) models over the geometry and flow inside the engine, analyze the results, and, afterwards, refine the model until satisfactory outcomes and enough data are acquired.
