Abstract

Since chronic stress can excessively stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, leading to a decrease in the immune response, favoring bone loss in the face of an inflammatory process, the objectives of this study will be: 1) To evaluate different methodologies for inducing chronic stress in rats 2) Assess the effect of different stresses on apical periodontitis. 32 Wistar rats (N = 8) will be used randomly divided into: Control (CN), Apical Periodontitis (NS), Apical Periodontitis + conditioned stress (SC), Apical Periodontitis + unpredictable stress (SI). The animals will be subjected to chronic stress for 42 days, starting 21 days before induction of the periapical lesion. To prove the stress, behavioral analysis and serum corticosterone level will be used. Micro tomographic and histological analysis will be performed to assess the effect of both stress methodologies on the development of apical periodontitis. The values obtained from the quantitative analyzes will be expressed as means and standard deviations. A priori, inferential statistical analysis will use ANOVA test. Analysis of variance will also be performed, and the Tukey multiple comparison test will be used when the variance is significant (pd0.05).
