Abstract

The aerospace and power generation industries are constantly looking for new materials that enable an improvement in the performance of thermal machines so necessary to these sectors. The efficiency of thermal machines is closely related to the operating temperature, as at higher service temperatures there is fuel saving and reduced emission of pollutants. For this, it is necessary to develop materials increasingly resistant to high temperatures. A new class of materials with the potential to meet this need is refractory high entropy alloys (RHEAs). These consist of alloys composed of five or more main elements, mostly refractory, in concentrations ranging from 5% to 35%.In general, when it comes to mechanical resistance and ductility at room temperature, RHEAs have a lower performance than alloys already widely used, which restricts their commercial application. In this sense, studies seek to develop and characterize new RHEAs in order to obtain better properties and increase the possibilities of applications for these very promising materials. In this project, through dilatometry and compression tests, analyzes of the thermal and mechanical behavior of the high entropy refractory alloys Al15Nb30Ti25V5Zr25 and Al15Mo25Nb30Ti25V5 will be carried out, whose compositions have not yet been reported in the literature, but have been developed by a doctoral student in the same group of research.
