Abstract

The objective of this project is to use the interdisciplinary methodological resources of historical demography to create a database: 1) of women and their descendants who formed multicultural families with the Portuguese in the 16th century; 2) the first three generations of potters; 3) the Portuguese and indigenous names of these women. The sources of this work are the bases published since the 18th century by the "lineages" and genealogists of São Paulo society (eg: Taques, 1954; Leme, 1903-1909), which gather and systematize an immense amount of information that, later, were revised and corrected by several researchers in the 20th century (eg Moura, 1950; Franco, 1954). The identification of women does not seek to be exhaustive, not least because there was a colonial moralistic filter that camouflaged polygamous marriages, despite the sources citing offspring as a result of relationships outside monogamous marriages.
